Chief Karl Lieb brings nearly 30 years of public service to Salt Lake City Fire Department. With a Commission in the United States Air Force, POST certification from the State of Montana and 21 years experience as a professional firefighter, he has extensive experience in public safety — from the federal to municipal level.
A former Hazardous Materials Technician, Station Captain, Special Operations Captain, Battalion Chief and Deputy Chief, Chief Lieb has been leading the SLC Fire since January 2017. Chief Lieb’s formal education includes a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Minnesota, a Master’s of Public Administration from the University of Utah, and an Executive Fire Officer Certificate from the National Fire Academy.
He is married with three children and enjoys reading, traveling, hiking, snowboarding and sports.
