Deputy Chief Robert “Rusty” McMicken began his career with the Salt Lake City Fire Department on Oct. 2, 1994. During his career, he has held positions as Assistant Chief, Administrative Services Bureau; Logistics Division Chief; response captain; adjunct training captain; paramedic; and firefighter.
Deputy Chief McMicken is responsible for overseeing the Salt Lake City Administrative Services Bureau and Operations Bureau.
He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Emergency Services Management from Utah Valley University, and an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science Technology from Truckee Meadow Community College.
McMicken was appointed Deputy Fire Chief of the Salt Lake City Fire Department on Jan. 17, 2017.

Assistant Chief Clair Baldwin oversees the Administration Bureau. He was hired by Salt Lake City Fire on Aug. 16, 1985, and became a paramedic in 1988.
He was promoted to the rank of captain in 1997, and became battalion chief in 2009. Upon that promotion, he served three years as a battalion chief in operations. He was the medical division chief from Dec. 23, 2012 to Jan. 16, 2016, when was appointed to be assistant chief, first over the Salt Lake City Fire Department Operations Bureau, and he currently oversees Salt Lake City Fire Department Administrative Services.
