Salt Lake City — The Exchange Club of Salt Lake City has named Salt Lake City Fire Department Captain Fred Anstee, “Firefighter of the Year 2017.”
The award was presented to Anstee on Feb. 7, 2018 at an Exchange Club luncheon. His name will remain on the historical plaque displayed outside the Salt Lake City Fire Department’s Administrative Chief offices.

“As a captain, he has been a mentor to many company officers,” said Karl Steadman, Assistant Fire Chief, Operations. “He has also played a key part in the formation of the department’s current Heavy Rescue Team.”

Captain Anstee is a 40-year-veteran firefighter, and he works as a captain at Station No. 5 (located on 900 S. and 1023 East).

Captain Anstee’s fellow firefighters often name Anstee as one of the hardest working members of the department, and a trailblazer in many department improvements. As a result, Anstee has been honored many times for his heroic efforts as a firefighter and captain.
