2nd Alarm Fire at Recycling Yard

At 13:24 on September 20, 2018, the Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to a report of a small outside fire at 2950 S 900 W. The fire began in the outdoor work area of a recycling plant that was processing cardboard and paper. Due to wind conditions and the material ignited, the fire grew and spread quickly. The first Fire Department units arrived at 13:30, and began by evacuating the area and keeping the fire away from endangered structures, later arriving units worked to contain the fire to the yard and begin extinguishment. The fire was brought under control at 15:05, and overhaul operations are continuing. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although it is believed to be accidental no determination has been made. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported.
