On Thursday, Jan. 12, Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski will conduct the swearing-in of the City’s new Fire Chief, Karl Lieb. Residents, representatives of the media, and business leaders are encouraged to attend.
Attendees should arrive by 3:30 p.m., and the event will take place on promptly at 4 p.m., in the bay of Salt Lake City Fire Station No. 1, located on 211 S. and 500 E.
Lieb requested that the ceremony be held there, because it is the station where he started his firefighting career 21 years ago.

Prior to being named Chief, Lieb worked as a HazMat Technician, Station Captain and District Battalion Chief. He has extensive experience in the public safety realm – from the federal to the municipal level. He has a commission in the United States Air Force and POST certification from the State of Montana Highway Patrol Academy. He has earned a degree from the University of Minnesota, a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Utah, and has an Executive Fire Officer certificate from the National Fire Academy.
