Rusty McMicken was appointed Deputy Fire Chief of the Salt Lake City Fire Department January 17, 2017. Chief McMicken began his career with the Department on October 2, 1994. During the course of his career, he has held positions as Assistant Chief Administrative Services Bureau, Logistics Division Chief, response Captain, Adjunct Training Captain, Paramedic, and Firefighter. Chief McMicken is currently responsible for oversight of the Administrative Services Bureau and Operations Bureau. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Utah Valley University in Public Emergency Services Management & an Associates of Science Degree from Truckee Meadow Community College in Fire Science Technology. Clair Baldwin was appointed as Assistant Chief January 16, 2016. As an Assistant Chief Baldwin has overseen both the Operations Bureau and now the Administration Bureau. He was hired by Salt Lake City Fire on August 16, 1985 and became a paramedic in 1988. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1997, and then Battalion Chief in 2009. He served as the Division Chief of the Medical Services Division from December 23, 2012 to January 16, 2016. Prior to that, he served three years as an Operations Battalion Chief. Karl Steadman was promoted to Assistant Chief over Operations on January 17, 2017. His fire service career with Salt Lake City Fire Department began in 1990. He has since served as a firefighter, Haz-Mat Technician, Paramedic, Captain, Division Chief over the training division and an Operations Battalion Chief. He is currently attending Utah Valley University where he will soon finish his Bachelor’s degree in Public Emergency Services Management.
